Will Manatee County set a voter turnout record this Election Day? See numbers so far
More than 170,000 Manatee County voters had already cast their ballots before Election Day, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.
That number accounts for more than 60% of the county’s registered voters, representing a high level of local turnout in Tuesday’s general election that will decide the country’s next president, new local officials and two local referendum questions.
Those numbers fell just shy of early voting numbers in the 2020 presidential election, which saw 64% of Manatee County cast a ballot ahead of Election Day. By the end of the day, that election set a local turnout record with more than 79% of voters casting ballots.
As of Monday evening, Republicans held a firm lead in the number of ballots cast, outpacing Democrats and no-party voters. GOP voters submitted over 87,000 ballots, compared to nearly 45,000 from Democrats and nearly 39,000 from independents.
According to the latest data, early voting proved to be more popular than vote-by-mail in Manatee County. About 60% of voters who cast ballots in advance chose to vote early at one of the eight early voting locations, while the other 40% voted by mail.
