Margaret Good takes a stand against Washington’s partisan politics in new campaign ad

State Rep. Margaret Good, D-Sarasota, is taking a stand against corporate lobbyists, partisan politics and career politicians in her latest campaign advertisement.

Good’s campaign launched the new 90-second digital ad Wednesday morning. The legislator explained that others have always told her what to do, but it never affected her beliefs.

“When you’re the daughter of a pastor, you get told where to sit — a lot. When you’re the little girl with the big ideas, you get told where to sit then, too. And even when you run for state house and win, they tell you where to sit when you get there,” Good says in the ad. “But no matter how many times they told me where to sit, they could never tell me where to stand.”

The new ad also highlights some of Good’s work in the Florida Legislature, where she worked with Democrats and Republicans to help pass new laws, fought for changes to the state’s unemployment system during the COVID-19 pandemic and voted to support college scholarships.

In her race against Congressman Vern Buchanan, who was first elected in 2006, Good says she is ready to take a stand against politicians who believe Congress is “where you go to retire,” corporations that “buy our representatives” and “politicians who will say anything to get elected.”

Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, has shared two of his own ads, as well. One of them serves as a tribute to Spc. Nicholas Panipinto, a Bradenton soldier who died in a military training accident last year. The other, launched Tuesday, boasts Buchanan’s support from longtime leaders in Manatee County, County Commissioner Carol Whitmore and Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston.

Good’s first ad, which focused on a bipartisan record, is running on local television stations. Buchanan has also made a media buy to air his first commercial in the area.

Good and Buchanan are running to represent Florida’s 16th Congressional District, which includes Manatee and parts of Sarasota and Hillsborough counties. The General Election is on Nov. 3.
