An Indiana man is accused of opening fire at a CVS pharmacy, shooting two workers, then was shot by a worker’s boyfriend, police say.

The shooting happened after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at a CVS on the east side of Indianapolis, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Oct. 14.

A man, Terry Rowe Jr., and his wife were at the pharmacy trying to pick up two prescriptions, both pain medications, but only one was ready, the affidavit read. The wife had just been released from the hospital, the couple told employees.

Rowe became angry and started yelling insults at one of the technicians, identified as “DJ” in the affidavit. DJ yelled back at Rowe, according to police, and a pharmacist told her to go home for the day.

DJ went outside to wait for her boyfriend to pick her up, she told police, adding that she overheard Rowe talking to someone on the phone, saying, “get the drake, get the gun.”

Rowe and his wife were inside their vehicle outside the store when DJ’s boyfriend arrived, and the two men exchanged words, then gunfire, according to police.

DJ hid behind a pillar as shots rang out, but she and another employee, “JB,” were hit, the affidavit said. Rowe was shot, and though he left the scene, police later found him at a hospital with gunshot wounds to his right arm, left leg and rib cage. There were also multiple bullet holes in the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer he arrived in, police said.

JB, whose name is Jerri Brady, recounted tense moments leading up to the violence in an interview with WTHR.

After Rowe finished yelling at DJ, “I saw him at that point go put something in his front pocket. I know it was a gun. I know it was,” Brady told the station. “I called my store manager at that time and I said, ‘I fear for our lives,’ and she said call the police.”

But then the shooting started, and even Brady, who was still inside the store, wasn’t safe.

“My arm, like, literally just flew back and I was losing so much blood they thought I was gonna die,” she told the outlet.

The two employees were taken to a hospital for treatment. Brady was hit twice in the left arm and had “a significant fracture,” while DJ was struck in the right arm, police said.

DJ’s boyfriend told police he didn’t start the confrontation, but “fired back,” and handed over his Glock handgun to officers at the scene, the affidavit read.

There were a total of 18 shell casings recovered at the scene, police said.

Police searched Rowe’s home and found meth, as well as multiple firearms, including a handgun with the serial number filed off and a rifle that had been reported stolen in August, the affidavit said .

Rowe is facing charges including aggravated battery, dealing in methamphetamine, and weapons charges, records show.

No attorney information was available for Rowe as of Oct. 15.
