Man buys wife lottery tickets instead of flowers when ‘in trouble.’ She wins big

When a Maryland husband is in the dog house, he skips the flowers.

Instead, when the Ocean City man is “in trouble” with his wife, he buys her a lottery ticket, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Oct. 10 news release.

“It works better than flowers, and I’m in trouble a lot,” the man told lottery officials.

And his strategy finally paid off with a big win.

After buying a $5 Maryland Lottery’s Deluxe Crossword 10th Edition ticket in Berlin, the player gave the ticket to his wife at home, per the couple’s “system.”

“I buy them, and she scratches them,” the man said.

As the woman scratched the ticket, she realized they had won the game’s top prize of $50,000 with the words “air, arc, arid, cape, fawn, idle, knead and urn,” lottery officials said.

“She smiled, and then she gave it back to me,” the husband said.

To celebrate, the couple splurged on dinner at a seafood restaurant in West Ocean City, lottery officials said.

“I’m pretty happy,” the winner said.

Berlin is about 130-mile drive southeast from Baltimore.
