Lottery player pinches himself after learning of big MD win. ‘Am I dreaming?’

If a Maryland truck driver has cash in his pocket, he likes to try his luck.

The Elkridge man often buys a scratch-off lottery ticket at the start and end of his work day, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Oct. 8 news release.

Recently, toward the end of his run, he bought a $5 Jurassic Park ticket at a 7-Eleven in Hampstead, lottery officials said.

His ticket, it turns out, came with “a pleasant surprise:” a $50,000 prize, lottery officials said.

“I pinched myself and asked, ‘Am I dreaming?” the winner told lottery officials. “It’s one of the greatest days in my life!”

The player said the win comes at an optimal time, as his wife is in the middle of starting a business, adding that the winnings will be useful for her materials and inventory.

The man told lottery officials the win won’t change his day-to-day life.

“I’m going to go back to work every day and not be behind on my bills. That’s it,” the player said.

He said he plans to continue to try his luck with lottery games but doesn’t plan “to go crazy” with ticket purchases.

Hampstead is about a 30-mile drive northwest from Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
