Trail of blood led cops to woman stabbed to death by boyfriend, AZ officials say
A trail of blood led police officers to a woman who Arizona prosecutors say was stabbed to death by her boyfriend.
Now, Eduardo Galindo-Ramirez, 34, has been sentenced to 18.5 years in prison in Andrea Casarrubias Romero’s death, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said in a Sept. 8 news release.
Galindo-Ramirez’s sentencing comes after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in May, court records show.
McClatchy News was unable to immediately reach an attorney representing Galindo-Ramirez on Sept. 10.
“At no point did this defendant show any regard for Andrea’s life,” County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in the release. “He attempted to wash himself clean of his actions, but thanks to the diligent work of the Phoenix Police Department and the perseverance of her family, he was brought to justice.”
A landlord called 911 shortly before 8:30 a.m. on May 5, 2024, saying “he found blood on his driveway that led into his tenant’s portion of the house,” Phoenix police said in a news release.
The trail of blood led officers to Galindo-Ramirez’s apartment, where they found 24-year-old Casarrubias Romero dead inside with more than 30 stab wounds, prosecutors and police said.
Casarrubias Romero’s brother helped police determine Galindo-Ramirez was in Mexico, prosecutors said.
In a phone conversation with the brother, Galindo-Ramirez admitted to killing his girlfriend as they fought, then ”showering, and treating a wound to his right hand before fleeing to Mexico,” prosecutors said.
The brother convinced Galindo-Ramirez to return to the country and surrender himself to authorities, prosecutors said.
Galindo-Ramirez was arrested May 6, 2024, after turning himself in to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in Arizona, police said.
Galindo-Ramirez told investigators that he had been drinking heavily the night of the stabbing, according to court documents obtained by AZ Family.
He went on to say he could not recall what led to the stabbing, adding that he only remembers he had a knife, “and the next thing he knew was that she was lying on the floor dead,” the outlet reported.
According to court documents, while speaking with detectives, Ramirez-Galindo said, “He wanted to take responsibility for her death and that ‘what happened to her should happen to him,’” AZ Family reported.
