A Texas man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and his nephew has been found dead in jail, police told news outlets.

Lorenzo Aleman, 49, fatally shot his ex and her new partner outside an H-E-B grocery store in San Antonio at around 10 p.m. Sunday, July 13, police said in a news release.

He drove away but was arrested five hours later at his home, police said, adding that witnesses provided great help to investigators by noting his license plate number and by recognizing him in a lineup.

Investigators say Aleman found his ex, 41-year-old Beatriz Guzman, and his nephew, 31-year Jeronimo Aleman Ramirez in the parking lot of the H-E-B, and got into an argument with them, WOAI reported.

The argument escalated when Aleman, “in a fit of jealousy,” opened fire, police said, and the couple was pronounced dead at the scene, the station reported.

Officials say Aleman was found dead at the Bexar County Jail at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, KENS reported.

He was facing a charge of capital murder, KABB reported.

McClatchy News has reached out to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
