Driver kills cyclist, offers cop $1K to act ‘like nothing happened’, AK reports say
A driver being transported to jail following a fatal wreck involving a cyclist told a police officer she’d give him cash “if he dropped her off down the street and ‘acted like nothing happened,’” reports in Alaska say.
The 40-year-old woman offered the officer $1,000, Alaska Public Media reported, citing a court document.
The woman then assured the officer she had the money when he “asked her to repeat herself,” the Anchorage Daily News reported, citing the document.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, DUI, bribery, reckless driving and refusal to submit to a chemical test, the Anchorage Police Department said.
McClatchy News reached out to her attorney June 26 and was awaiting a response.
The wreck happened the evening of June 19, police said.
First responders were called out at about 9:15 p.m., and “upon arrival, it was determined that a Mazda SUV had struck an adult male bicyclist,” police said.
The cyclist, Radahamez Rodriguez-Perez, 48, died at the scene, police said.
The “proud son of Mexico” had moved to Alaska a few years back and was chatting with his mom by phone before the wreck, KTUU reported.
