A wanted man from Georgia tried hiding himself among snow-covered bushes in Tennessee — but forgot to cover his tracks, authorities said.

Someone tipped off deputies after spotting the 31-year old on Sunday, Jan. 12, at a home in Hamilton County, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

He has existing warrants out of Catoosa County, Georgia on charges including aggravated assault, simple battery and child cruelty, according to authorities.

Deputies were checking the home when the man was seen walking in the area, the release said. Investigators said he was gone by the time deputies got to the scene.

More deputies arrived and established a perimeter with help from other local agencies, the release said. That’s when they noticed “fresh tracks” in the snow.

Authorities said they followed the tracks behind a Quick Mart convenience store, “across a creek and up a steep ridge” where they found him hiding in bushes behind a tree.

The man was arrested on a charge of evading arrest and taken to the Hamilton County jail, deputies said. He remained in custody without bond as of Jan. 14, jail records show.

Authorities said he’ll be extradited to Georgia after the new charge is resolved.

Hamilton County is about a 120-mile drive southwest from Knoxville.
