Man ambushes neighbors returning from grocery trip, killing them and himself, PA cops say
A Pennsylvania man ambushed his neighbors as they returned home from the grocery store, killing both of them and then himself, Philadelphia police told news outlets.
Police responded to the shooting at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, on Philadelphia’s north side, WCAU reported.
Officers arrived to find 77-year-old Clinton Quarles shot to death on the front steps of the home, and another man, 66-year-old Alvinn Berry, dead just a few feet away with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the outlet reported. Inside the home, a woman identified as Linda Beeks, 76, was badly wounded but alive — though she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Quarles and Beeks lived together and were a couple, WTXF reported, and Berry was their nextdoor neighbor.
Daeshanae Diego lives on the same street and witnessed Berry gun down the couple just as they arrived home with groceries, she told the station. After the first volley of gunfire, Diego says Berry came back outside and shot Beeks and Quarles again before turning the gun on himself.
Police say they have not identified a motive for the shooting, WPVI reported.
However, neighbors say there was a feud between Berry and the couple due to “ongoing disputes,” the outlet reported.
An investigation is underway.
