Following reports of a “suspicious situation” in a Michigan residence, authorities discovered something grim inside the home’s freezer, authorities say.

East Lansing police officers responded to the home Thursday, Nov. 7, when a 911 caller discovered the floors were stained with blood, according to a Nov. 8 news release.

When officers entered the home, they found the body of an unidentified person inside a freezer, police said. They also found “possible human remains” of a second person of unknown gender.

East Lansing Interim Police Chief Chad Pride said the blood was dried, indicating the deaths did not occur recently, WLNS reported.

The remains were removed from the home and are being examined at a Michigan State Police crime lab, police said.

There have been no arrests made, police said, adding that there is not believed to be a threat to the public.

But for the residents in the East Lansing community, the encounter and the smells that came with it are something that won’t soon be forgotten.

“I haven’t smelled death, but if I had to guess it was the smell of death,” Andrew Whitney, who lives next door, told WLNS.

Anyone with information is asked to contact East Lansing police at 517-319-6876 or 517-319-6842.

East Lansing is about a 90-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
