A feline in Indiana is the definition of “scaredy cat” after being completely abandoned by people he thought he could trust. But now, he’s ready for a home.

Louie, a domestic shorthair cat with a sweet, curious face, has lost his ability to trust humans after being returned to the shelter a few times, the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said.

“I’ve had a bit of a rough start,” the shelter said in the voice of Louie in a Nov. 17 Facebook post. “My first owner abandoned me, and I’ve had a few homes since then. My most recent owner surrendered me to the HSHC because I was unwanted. As a result, I’m afraid of nearly everything.”

Louie is neutered and house broken, and he’s currently with a foster family. While at the shelter, the 7-year-old cat was afraid of people and wouldn’t come out to see them.

“Consequently, I was sent to a foster home to build my confidence and social skills. My foster mom is very proud of the improvements I’ve made,” the shelter said. “I have gotten along so well with the other cats in the home, and they have helped me to learn how to be a pet kitty!”

However, folks with dogs are deferred from taking Louie on since he’s afraid of the dog in his foster home.

“Yes, I am still a genuine scaredy-cat, as loud noises, sudden movements, and a hectic environment can send me running! But I am gradually gaining courage, and the family no longer frightens me. I adore being petted, lying beside my people, and receiving their loving attention,” the shelter noted.

His foster mother has learned that Louie loves expressing his voice and has an opinion “on nearly everything.”

“My greatest hope is to find a forever family who will support my increasing confidence and give me plenty of time to settle into a routine. I promise to be as brave as I can possibly be!”

More information on Louie can be found on the shelter’s website.

Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
