14-year-old among 5 people charged in death of teen beaten with pipe, Georgia cops say
A Georgia teen died from his injuries after a violent fight.
Now, five people — one as young as 14 — are charged with murder in his death, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities said Darion Davis, 16, of Pearson, was involved in a fight when he was repeatedly hit with a pipe.
The Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to look into the Oct. 12 assault, the agency said in an Oct. 29 news release. During the investigation, agents said they found video of a fight that showed the suspects beating Davis.
One of them, a 15-year-old, grabbed a pipe and hit Davis with it multiple times, agents said.
He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, according to authorities.
Davis’ body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, where an autopsy is scheduled.
Agents arrested five people in connection with the fatal attack:
- A 14-year-old charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
- A 15-year-old charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
- A 16-year-old charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
- A 17-year-old charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
Ta’shunika Jones, 21, charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
Jones and the 17-year old were taken to the Atkinson County Jail, according to agents. Jones remained in custody as of Oct. 31, online records show.
The GBI said the teens are in the custody of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
Pearson is about a 140-mile drive southeast from Macon.
