Woman going 109 mph with babies in car said she needed bathroom, Connecticut cops say
A Connecticut woman caught driving 109 mph with a baby and toddler inside her car told a state trooper that she was in need of a bathroom, state police said.
But she drove by multiple rest areas before she was pulled over on Route 2 in Marlborough on Oct. 26, according to an Oct. 28 news release issued by Connecticut State Police.
When the trooper clocked her speeding, she was driving in a 65 mph zone, authorities said.
The woman, 21, of New London is charged with reckless driving, two counts of risk of injury to a child, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension and second-degree reckless endangerment, according to police.
Information regarding her legal representation wasn’t immediately available.
McClatchy News is not identifying the woman to protect the identity of the children.
After the woman was pulled over, troopers saw the baby and a toddler in the back seat of the car, as well as another woman in the front seat, according to an arrest report. It wasn’t mentioned whether the women and children are related.
Authorities learned the car’s registration was “suspended due to non-compliance with insurance requirements,” police said.
Following the traffic stop, a Connecticut Department of Children and Families “referral was made,” according to police.
The woman was released on a $1,000 cash/surety bond after her arrest, police said. She’s due in court on Nov. 18.
New London, where she’s from, is about a 50-mile drive southeast from Hartford.
