‘Cherished’ golfer crushed to death by falling tree on course, Oregon officials say
A beloved golfer died after being pinned by a falling tree on an Oregon golf course, officials reported.
Bob Dunn, 68, was playing with friends and his son when a tree fell on him at The Mook at Alderbrook in Tillamook County, The Oregonian reported.
Firefighters used chainsaws to free Dunn after the incident at about 2:13 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, but he later died from his injuries, firefighters told KOIN.
“We were just in the wrong spot at the wrong time,” friend Hugh Ragle told The Oregonian. “That tree came down without any wind. Just a crack, and boom, it was down.”
In a statement on Facebook, The Mook at Alderbrook called Dunn a “cherished and faithful” golfer and “a beloved friend.”
“His presence on the course brought joy and camaraderie, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him,” the statement said.
The golf course is about a 75-mile drive west from Portland.
