Dog mauls 6-year-old with handcuffs on hands, feet, Ohio cops say. Mom among 3 charged
Three people in Ohio have been arrested after police say a 6-year-old boy was attacked by a dog while his hands and feet were handcuffed.
Around 5 p.m. Aug. 17, the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for reports of a 6-year-old child who had been attacked by a dog in Savannah, about 65 miles southwest of Cleveland, according to a news release.
The boy had been bitten on his neck and ear, officials said.
When deputies arrived, the boy was in serious condition and had to be flown to a hospital.
After investigating, officials learned that during the attack the boy’s hands and feet were restrained with handcuffs, according to the release. A search warrant was executed and investigators found evidence to support this.
While executing the warrant, officials said they found the man who owns the dog and the home hiding in an upstairs cubby hole with the dog.
The man, the boy’s mother and her boyfriend were taken into custody, police said. Authorities said the boyfriend helped restrain the child.
According to court documents, the three are accused of restraining the boy as a form of punishment.
McClatchy News is not naming the suspects to protect the identity of the boy.
The three suspects are charged with endangering children, court records show, and the man who owns the dog is also charged with tampering with evidence. The mom and her boyfriend are also charged with obstructing justice.
Attorney information was not available as of Aug. 21.
The dog was taken into custody and housed as a “vicious dog,” authorities said.
