Family dogs kill 9-year-old turning water spigot off outside home, Arizona cops say
A girl died after her family dogs attacked her while she was turning off a water spigot outside her home, Arizona deputies say.
Family called 911 the evening of Aug. 9, telling deputies a 9-year-old girl had been attacked by her family’s dogs, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office said in an Aug. 12 Facebook post.
At the time of the incident, the girl was “home with many members of her family,” deputies said.
She ran outside the Aripine home “to turn off a water spigot,” deputies said.
The dogs, which regularly interact with the family and children, “for unknown reasons” attacked the girl, leaving her with “severe physical trauma,” deputies said.
The family and first responders tried to help the girl, however, she died from her injuries, according to deputies.
“Our hearts just pour out for this family, not only here in the headquarters at the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, but the guys who work on the street that responded to this,” Deputy Brian Swanty told FOX 10 News. “This is not the type of call that anybody ever wants to be involved in.”
Swanty told the outlet the dogs were removed from the home and will likely not be returned.
The sheriff’s office said it is investigating the “tragic incident,” adding that no additional information will be released.
Aripine is about a 250-mile drive northeast from Phoenix.
