An 18-year-old has been arrested after being accused of fatally shooting a man in Oregon, officers said.

On June 27, officers responded to reports of gunfire and found a man, later identified as Hunter Sutherland Lantz Hecker, 30, of Portland, fatally shot, according to a news release by police.

Hecker had gone to a bar with his girlfriend near their home, Hecker’s family attorney, Chris Heywood, told McClatchy News in a statement.

Hecker was later shot in front of the bar, Heywood said.

He died in his girlfriend’s arms on a sidewalk, Heywood said.

On July 16, police arrested Adrian G. Garcia and charged him with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, officers said. Police didn’t specify if Hecker and Garcia knew each other.

“Hunter’s gentle spirit, kind heart, and love for his craft have left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His smile and zest for life will be forever missed by his family and friends, who cherish him deeply,” Heywood said.

The Portland police ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to call 503-823-0404.
