A gunshot was fired outside a Texas high school’s athletic facility by the ex-spouse of a coach, officials say.

No one was injured in the shooting, which took place around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Greenville High School, according to the Greenville Independent School District.

Officials said the ex-spouse “attempted to harm” the staff member by firing a single shot outside the school’s athletic facility.

Student workouts concluded at noon and there were no students in the area when the shooting occurred, officials said. The school was placed on lockdown for nearly an hour.

The ex-spouse fled the school and was later detained in the Dallas area, the school district said in a 9:45 p.m. update. Their identity has not been publicly disclosed, and details on whether charges will be filed was not released.

Administrators said the school will have an “increased security presence” during the remaining student activities over the summer.

“We appreciate the swift and professional response of all of the first responders involved,” the school district said. “Greenville ISD in conjunction with the Greenville ISD Police Department will continue to take all necessary precautions to keep safety as a top priority.”

Greenville is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Dallas.
