‘Beloved’ elementary teacher killed in murder-suicide at Illinois home, officials say

A “beloved” second grade teacher is one of two people found dead inside an Illinois home in an apparent murder-suicide, officials say.
At about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, officers responded to a home in Normal for a call about a shooting, the Normal Police Department said in a news release. Officers arrived to find a man and woman with gunshot wounds.
They both died of their injuries, police said.
Police believe 46-year-old Matthew Moore “illegally entered” the home with a gun and shot Amy Moore, 48, multiple times, killing her. Then, Moore died by suicide, police said.
Matthew Moore was Amy Moore’s estranged husband, WEEK reported.
Amy Moore taught at Grove Elementary, according to McLean County Unit District No. 5.
“Amy Moore was an outstanding mother, daughter, educator, and friend,” Grove Elementary Principal Sarah Edwards said in a statement.
“A graduate of Unit 5 Schools, Amy was a gifted educator who impacted the lives of thousands of students,” Edwards said. “She was a beloved second-grade teacher at Grove Elementary for almost 20 years, and lived her life to serve others, especially her three children. There are no words to define the grief that we feel at this time.”
Normal is a roughly 130-mile drive southwest of Chicago.
