‘Clumsy’ dog brothers rescued from road waited months for a home. Then came good news
Two “clumsy” dogs rescued from the roadside waited months in a North Carolina animal shelter.
Then came the emotional news that canine brothers Rosencrantz and Guildenstern got a new home — together.
“These two instantly won our hearts with their silly antics and memorable personalities,” a Raleigh-area shelter wrote June 17 on Facebook. “We’ve been rooting them to find their perfect match for what feels like forever, and just when it’s least expected, that day is here!”
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County said the dogs’ journey toward adoption started nine months ago. The pups were running along a road before a good Samaritan pulled over and rescued them. The dogs were brought to the shelter, where they became staff favorites.
“‘Rose’ and ‘Guild,’ as they’re nicknamed, may not be the most intelligent dogs we’ve ever had,” spokesperson Samantha Ranlet told McClatchy News in an email. “But they are certainly happy boys, and they have very big hearts! It’s such a hoot to watch them play together because their ‘buffoonery’ just amplifies when they’re in the same room.”
Over time, the goofy, “blocky-headed” dogs kept being overlooked.
“Since Rose and Guild are big dogs with a lot of clumsy, playful energy, they have always been popular for visits but not necessarily for adoption,” Ranlet wrote. “It took a little while to find just the right fit for them!”
The “perfect match” came after Guildenstern’s online adoption profile caught his new owners’ attention. The family came to an adoption event to meet the mixed-breed pup and spotted him with his brother.
“They weren’t planning on adopting two dogs, but when they saw the two of them together, they decided two dogs were better than one,” Ranlet wrote.
The family kicked off their next chapter with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, leaving shelter workers “over the moon.”
“We are like their own personal fan club,” Ranlet wrote. “So you can imagine it was big news to see them get adopted. There were a lot of happy tears and hugs in the building on adoption day.”
