Police are investigating after a man and woman were found shot to death near each other along a Houston walking and biking trail, Texas officials say.

Officers responded to the scene in downtown Houston after the body of the man was discovered at about 6:35 p.m. Sunday, June 2, the Houston Police Department said in a news release. He was dead, with gunshot wounds, on a sidewalk near the Buffalo Bayou Trail, according to police.

While searching the area for witnesses, officers stumbled upon a second body on a staircase leading up from the trail, the department said, adding that she had also been shot and killed.

Police said the man is believed to be in his 30s and the woman in her 60s, and investigators are working to identify them. Investigators don’t know if they knew each other or why they were killed.

“At this time, there is no known motive or suspect description,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to reach out to Houston police at 713-308-3600.
