25-year-old Bradenton woman hit and killed after her car broke down on I-75, FHP says
A 25-year-old woman from Bradenton was hit and killed on Interstate 75 in Manatee County on Monday after she stepped out of her car because she was having car trouble, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release.
The crash happened at 4:33 p.m. Monday on I-75 at mile marker 214. It involved four drivers and caused the interstate to shut down for several hours during rush hour.
According to the release, the woman had stopped on the outer southbound lane of I-75 because of a “mechanical issue.” A 9-year-old girl was a passenger in the sedan.
While the woman stood at the driver’s side with the door open, another car driven by a 20-year-old Sarasota woman began to change lanes and approached her. The front of the vehicle hit the woman, and the right side of her car crashed into the left side of the Bradenton woman’s vehicle, the release said.
After the first crash, the 20-year-old’s car hit the right side of another vehicle, an SUV that had a Naples woman and two children inside.
Then another car, driven by a 21-year-old man from Bradenton, hit the 25-year-old woman’s car after the crash, the release said.
The body of the 25-year-old Bradenton woman was discovered in the grass on the shoulder of the highway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Everyone else had no injuries reported.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
