Second fatal motorcycle crash in 2 days kills 19-year-old on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota
A 19-year-old on a motorcycle was killed Wednesday, the second fatal motorcycle crash in Sarasota in two days.
The Florida Highway Patrol said in a press statement that a 19-year-old man from Sarasota died after being thrown from his motorcycle into a crosswalk pole on Bee Ridge Road on Wednesday evening.
The fatal crash happened at 6:47 p.m. on Bee Ridge Road, near the intersection with Shade Avenue.
A 76-year-old Sarasota woman had stopped her SUV in the left turn lane.
Meanwhile, the teen was traveling east on Bee Ridge Road in the right lane, approaching Shade Avenue.
The 76-year-old woman tried to turn left onto Shade Avenue, cutting in front of the motorcyclist.
The right front of the woman’s SUV hit the front of the motorcycle, which caused him to be thrown from the bike and into a crosswalk pole.
The woman’s SUV then spun into the roadway and hit a third driver’s SUV.
The 19-year-old man suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
On Tuesday night a 21-year-old motorcyclist from Orlando died in a hit and run crash at Fruitville Road and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, and police are still looking for the driver of a 202 Audi SUV found abandoned on Interstate 75.
Both crashes are under investigation.
