Bradenton police: Woman who died in possible drug-related incident received medical attention earlier in day for overdose

BRADENTON -- A 37-year-old woman whose body was found in a ditch Monday afternoon had emergency medical services called for her for an overdose earlier that day, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

The woman was found at about 12:25 p.m. behind the Big Lots located at 5584 Cortez Road W. in Bradenton. Police said they believe her death was drug-related.

At 9:45 a.m. that day, EMS was called to the Hungry Howie's located at 5306 Cortez Road W. on an overdose for the same woman.

"She was laying on the grass and woke up, and she refused further medical treatment," said Lt. James Racky of the Bradenton Police Department.

No drugs were administered to the woman, and nothing was found that could compel the woman to go to the hospital for further treatment, Racky said.

The police are not yet releasing the name of the woman, pending notification of her family. A cause of death cannot be confirmed until the woman's autopsy.
