Manatee sheriff offers new details, cash reward in fatal Bradenton shooting

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is offering a cash reward for information about a suspect accused of killing one man and injuring another.

Investigators say 35-year-old Maurice McCary, also known as D’Low, killed Jamari Murray-Barnes, 27, and injured a 22-year-old man while they were at a stoplight at the intersection of 14th Street West (U.S. 41) and 53rd Avenue West in Bradenton, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office says they believe that an altercation occurred between the men while inside a bar on March 6, and that McCary pulled his car next to the men while they were stopped at the intersection, allegedly shooting them two days later.

According to the sheriff’s office, an arrest warrant has been obtained by the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit, charging McCary with second-degree murder in the death of Murray-Barnes.

The department says additional charges regarding the surviving victim’s injuries are pending.

In an attempt to locate McCary, the sheriff’s office is offering a total of up to $9,500 for any information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.

The $9,500 reward is available through June 30, and information must be submitted through the Crime Stoppers program to be eligible for the cash reward, according to the sheriff’s office.

Those who wish to leave an anonymous tip “and be eligible for a cash reward” can contact Manatee County Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-8477 or submit an online tip at the Manatee County Crime Stoppers website, according to the sheriff’s office.
