Bradenton shooting leaves one dead, one injured, Manatee deputies say

Detectives are investigating a Bradenton shooting that left one man dead and another injured on Sunday, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The agency said deputies were on a routine patrol early Sunday morning when they heard gunshots that came from the 5200 block of 14th Street West in Bradenton.

When deputies arrived in the area, they found a white vehicle in the street surrounded by spent shell casings, the sheriff’s office said.

Two men were inside the vehicle, both with gunshot wounds, the agency said.

The sheriff’s office said deputies provided first aid, but one of the men, 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes, died at the scene. Emergency responders took the other man, 22-year-old Deryan Lopez, to a local hospital.

In an update on Monday, the sheriff’s office said Lopez is expected to survive.

“Based on preliminary information, detectives believe this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence,” the sheriff’s office said after the shooting.

As of Monday, the agency said detectives are following several leads but have not made any arrests.
