A Bradenton man is set to spend decades in federal prison after prosecutors say he used a hidden camera to produce child sexual abuse material.

Joshua Scott Landers, 48, received the 27-year, 3-month prison sentence in a Tampa courtroom on Dec. 4, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced.

In August, a jury found Landers guilty on three counts of producing child sexual abuse material and one count of possession of child sexual abuse materials, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.

Prosecutors say testimony and evidence presented at trial show Landers installed a video camera inside a smoke detector on the ceiling of a teenage girl’s bedroom, which he used to capture sexually explicit conduct. Prosecutors say he saved videos and screenshots of the footage for several years.

Landers faced up to 30 years in federal prison for each production of sexual abuse material offense, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years.

This case was investigated by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
