A jury found a Bradenton man guilty of using a hidden camera to produce child sexual abuse material, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced.

The federal jury convicted Joshua Scott Landers, 48, on three counts of producing child sexual abuse material and one count of possession of child sexual abuse materials, according to a news release.

Prosecutors say testimony and evidence presented at trial show Landers installed a video camera inside a smoke detector on the ceiling of a teenage girl’s bedroom, which he used to capture sexually explicit conduct. Prosecutors say he saved that footage on multiple devices and kept those videos and screenshots for several years.

A sentencing hearing will be held at a later date.

Landers could be sentenced to up to 30 years in federal prison for each production of sexual abuse material offense, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years. For the possession charge, Landers faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

This case was investigated by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
