Jewish temples in Sarasota vandalized with swastikas, police say. Suspect caught on video
A suspect was caught on camera vandalizing two Jewish temples in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect spray painted swastikas and other graffiti at both locations. The crimes caused an estimated thousands of dollars in damage, deputies say.
Surveillance video captured the male suspect entering the grounds of Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. He wore blue jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, and a baseball cap and red bandanna covered his face. The suspect can be seen vandalizing multiple areas of the temple in the video.
Around 2:30 a.m., what appears to be the same suspect was caught on camera at Temple Sinai, 4631 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota. Footage provided to law enforcement shows the suspect vandalize that temple as well.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with dark hair and a thin build.
