Bradenton man drove drunk and killed a woman, cops say. He also didn’t have a license
The Bradenton man charged with driving drunk, crashing into the back of Jeep, killing the driver and leaving the scene, didn’t have a license to drive, according to court records. It’s also not the first time he’s been caught driving without a license.
Alberto Vigo, 32, was arrested Sunday and was being held without bond at the Hillsborough County jail, as of Monday afternoon.
Less than a month ago, on Jan. 14, Vogo was pulled over by police in Holmes Beach when an officer noticed the purple Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving didn’t have a rear-view mirror. Vigo handed over an ID card to the officer who ran him through law enforcement databases and discovered that Vigo’s license had multiple suspensions.
Vigo was not arrested, and instead issued a traffic citation and a notice to appear in court on Feb. 18.
At about 7 a.m. Sunday, Vigo was headed north on Interstate 75 in a Ford F-150 when he crashed into the back of a Jeep, that was traveling slower than he was. The Jeep flipped over into the grass and the driver, a 37-year-old Wimauma woman, was thrown from the Jeep and killed.
Vigo kept driving, however, for about three miles before the F-150 broke down. He ran off but troopers found him soon after at the nearby Ring Power facility.
He is now charged with loitering or prowling, possession of marijuana, DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash causing death and driving with suspended license causing a death or serious injury.
Vigo has been labeled a habitual offender for driving without a valid license, according to court records.
In January 2017, Vigo was arrested in Hillsborough County and charged with driving with a suspended license, carrying a concealed firearm, operating an unregistered vehicle, possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and petit theft.
He later pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license, carrying a concealed firearm and operating an unregistered vehicle and was sentenced to 39 days in jail.
In June 2016, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled Vigo over when they spotted him driving a car that was missing a decal on the tag. The deputy had run the tag and discovered that the car’s registration was expired and later also discovered that Vigo’s driver’s license was suspended.
