Bradenton man drove drunk and killed a woman on I-75, cops say. Then it got worse

A Bradenton man faces multiple felony charges after he was involved in a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol and then fled the crash scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Alberto Vigo, 32, was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 north of Big Bend Road around 7 a.m. Sunday when the collision occurred.

His Ford F-150 overtook a Jeep SUV that was traveling at a slower rate of speed, troopers say, and then struck the rear of the vehicle.

The impact forced the Jeep off of the interstate and onto a grass shoulder, where it overturned.

The Jeep’s driver, a 37-year-old woman from Wimauma, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

Vigo kept driving, traveling roughly three more miles north before his truck broke down. He then got out of the truck and fled from the interstate, according to FHP. Vigo was located nearby a Ring Power Corporation facility close to I-75 and arrested by troopers.

He is charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and driving with a suspended license involving a death.

Vigo was booked into Hillsborough County’s Orient Road Jail, according to FHP.
