What killed woman found in Longboat Key sauna remains a mystery, cops say
The death of a woman found in a Longboat Key sauna is being treated as a homicide until law enforcement receives more information from the medical examiner.
According to Longboat Key Police Chief Pete Cummings, the department met with the medical examiner Wednesday morning but the cause of death is still unknown. He hopes to receive definitive answers soon.
On Jan. 23, a 54-year-old woman’s body was discovered in the 2600 block of Harbourside Drive. She didn’t die a natural death, Cummings said.
“We still don’t know if it is a suicide or a homicide but we are investigating it as a homicide,” he said. “We hope to know more soon.”
The woman’s name has not been released. Officials are awaiting the results of toxicology and DNA tests.
The Longboat Key Police Department’s forensics team is working with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the case.
