This man is facing life in prison after being found guilty of shooting outside El Paisano
A Bradenton man is facing up to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of charges in connection to a shooting outside a Bradenton bar.
Mauro Ramirez, 39, was found guilty by a jury last week of attempted second-degree murder, battery and giving law enforcement a false name for the incident outside El Paisano in Oneco in June.
“This type of gun violence in a public location is a threat to our entire community, as well as to this particular victim,” Assistant State Attorney Rebecca Muller said in an issued statement. “We appreciate the bravery he displayed by testifying at trial and we commend the investigative efforts of law enforcement and thoughtful consideration of the jury.”
A sentencing hearing has not been set, but Ramirez is facing up to life in prison with a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years.
Because of the efforts of all involved, one more dangerous criminal has been removed from the streets of our community,” Muller said.
At about 9:30 p.m. on June 4, Ramirez and the then 21-year-old victim were outside the bar on different sides of the parking lot when, according to testimony from the trial, Ramirez walked up to the victim, punched him in the head and shot him in the face.
The nightclub’s bouncer witnessed the battery and shooting, wrestled the gun from Ramirez and held him down until Manatee sheriff’s office deputies arrived. Though the club’s video surveillance did not capture the shooting, it did capture Ramirez just seconds before showing someone in the parking lot a dark object that was tucked in his waistband.
Ramirez, however, told deputies at the scene that his name was “Jose Aldez,” but his fingerprints proved he was lying because of a 2003 attempted trafficking in cocaine conviction.
