Sam’s Club buys land for $15 million in Manatee. Is a second store coming?
Could a second Sam’s Club come to Manatee County?
A holding company representing the warehouse retail chain recently bought land in Palmetto, according to county records. Sam’s Club is a membership-only warehouse, which sells bulk groceries, retail items and more.
There is one Sam’s Club in Manatee County, at 5300 30th St. E., Bradenton. That store opened in 2002.
Sam’s East Inc. purchased land at 8670 Moccasin Wallow Road from McClure Properties Ltd. for $15 million on May 15, according to a deed filed with the Manatee County Clerk’s Office.
New Sam’s Club could go on former agriculture land
The property is between Carter Road and Bay Winds Parkway off Moccasin Wallow Road.
McClure Properties Ltd. has multiple parcels along Moccasin Wallow Road, including the one Sam’s East Inc. purchased, and is operated by the McClure family. The McClure family owns West Coast Tomato, which began in the 1920s.
Sam’s East Inc. is a holding company that operates Sam’s Club, according to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Arkansas-based Walmart is the parent company of Sam’s Club.
The land was previously approved for a big box retail store and gas station with accompanying parking and loading zone, according to building records.
A construction timeline has not been announced.
