Home Depot plans new Manatee County store, building records say
Home Depot is planning a new store in Manatee County.
The home improvement retailer recently filed paperwork with Manatee County Development Services to build a store in the Parrish area at the northwest corner of Moccasin Wallow Road and Carter Road.
According to building records, the store would occupy nearly 135,000 square feet and include a main building and garden center.
The project plan also includes a parking lot with two spaces available for smaller businesses.
Building records show a CVS Pharmacy is planned for the plaza. Chick-fil-A has also filed paperwork to build a restaurant in the area.
The project would be located across the street from Seaire, a master-planned community built around a man-made lagoon.
Home Depot expands in Manatee
Last August, Home Depot filed a request to rezone land to build a store at 5504 Lorraine Road, near the corner of Rangeland Parkway north of State Road 70 East.
However, community opposition contributed to Home Depot canceling those plans by September.
Co-founders Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank opened the first two The Home Depot stores in 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia, according to company history. The retailer has more than 2,300 stores in North America, including three existing stores in Manatee County.
The planned store marks the first one in Manatee County north of the Manatee River. The other Manatee County Home Depot stores are at 2350 Cortez Road W., 5820 State Road 64 E. and 5475 University Parkway.
The Home Depot is headquartered in Atlanta.
