A motorcycle rider was killed and others were seriously injured in a crash on U.S. 41 in Manatee County on Saturday, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers say the wreck happened around 9:05 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 (14th Street West) and Florida Boulevard in the Bradenton area of South Manatee County.

A 50-year-old Phoenix man was driving a motorcycle southbound on U.S. 41 with a 56-year-old North Port woman onboard, approaching Florida Boulevard, FHP said.

An 81-year-old Bradenton woman was driving a sedan northbound on U.S. 41 with an 86-year-old Bradenton man in a passenger’s seat, approaching the same intersection, the agency said.

Troopers say the Bradenton woman attempted to turn left onto Florida Boulevard during a yellow light and entered the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle hit the right side of the turning car, FHP said.

Emergency responders said the Phoenix man died at the scene, and the North Port woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The Bradenton man riding in the car was also seriously injured, FHP said. The Bradenton woman had minor injuries, the agency said.

The crash remained under investigation Sunday.
