A New Yorker with a Bronx bakery is opening a new restaurant in the Bradenton area
Coming soon to the Bradenton area: Morrone’s N.Y. Deli, Restaurant and Pizzeria.
There will be pastry items too, and possibly bagels.
Morrone’s is moving into space formerly occupied by Petrosino’s Italian Deli & Market, 5913 53rd Ave. E. It’s a high traffic area at the corner of Caruso Road and State Road 70 near Manatee Technical College.
Ermanno Morrone, 47, the son of Italian immigrants and a New York native, graduated as a pastry chef from the French Culinary Institute. He opened Morrone Pastry Shop and Cafe in the Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx in 2000.
Morrone’s in Bradenton will be different than the Bronx store, offering a deli, restaurant, pizzeria and bakery, Morrone said in a phone interview with the Bradenton Herald.
Morrone’s signage has already gone up, including a mention of the Bronx’s Arthur Avenue.
In addition to having the property, he has also lined up a chef, a pizza maker and a partner for the Bronx business.
“We are ready to roll,” Morrone said.
“I have been looking to move down there for some time,” he said, adding that he has already moved his family to Lakewood Ranch.
“We will have a full-scale Italian American restaurant, a full-scale Italian American deli and a New York-style bakery. The pizza, of course, will be New York style.
Morrone hopes to relocate to the Bradenton area in April and soon after complete the process to open the new business. He does not yet have an opening date.
Petrosino’s opened in 2019 and closed in 2022 after being damaged by Hurricane Ian.
Petrosino’s partners Brenda Edens and Kirk Henry opened their business as a New Jersey-style deli.
