Florida’s U.S. Rep. Greg Steube was injured Wednesday at his Sarasota property and required treatment at a local hospital, his office said.

“Congressman Steube was involved in an accident on his property late this afternoon and has sustained several injuries,” his Twitter account posted at 7:25 p.m.

On Thursday morning, his office tweeted that he was “knocked approximately 25 feet down off a ladder while cutting tree limbs.”

He spent the night in the intensive care unit with “several serious injuries” that are not life-threatening.

“He is making progress and in good spirits,” a tweet said.

His office also expressed thanks to a person who saw Steube fall and immediately called 911.

Florida Politics reported that Steube fell from the roof of his home and was discovered by a part-time staffer for U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan of Longboat Key.

Steube, 44, represents the 17th district of Florida, which includes all of Sarasota and Charlotte counties and parts of Lee County.

He was born in Bradenton and is the son of former Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube.
