Florida Rep. Steube out of ICU, still in hospital care after 25 foot fall
Florida’s U.S. Rep. Greg Steube remained hospitalized on Thursday with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a 25 foot fall from a ladder at his Sarasota property on Wednesday, his office said.
“He is making progress and in good spirits,” a statement on Steube’s official Twitter account read.
The statement explained that Steube fell 25 feet from a ladder while cutting tree limbs at the property. A witness saw Steube fall and immediately called 911, another tweet said.
“Congressman Steube and his family would like to express their deepest thanks to the team of doctors, nurses, and medical personnel treating him,” the statement said.
“We are thankful to the individual who witnessed the fall and immediately called 911, as well as Sarasota County’s Emergency Services for their quick response and transportation.”
The congressman was moved out of an intensive care unit on Thursday afternoon and continued to receive treatment at the hospital, an update posted to his Twitter page said.
Many of Steube’s fellow lawmakers offered words of support for his recovery, including newly elected Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
“I spoke with @RepGregSteube and his wife, Jen, this morning,” a post on McCarthy’s Twitter account said. “He is in good spirits, and our entire conference prays for a swift recovery.
“I informed him he will serve on the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, and he is eager to get back to work!,” the tweet added, referring to a controversial new subcommittee recently approved by House Republicans.
Steube, an attorney and Bradenton native, served in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate before his election to federal government in 2018.
