Owens Fish Camp is one of 4 new restaurants opening at Lakewood Ranch. Here’s the latest
Owens Fish Camp, one of the most anticipated new restaurants coming to Lakewood Ranch and a new location of the Sarasota staple, could open as soon as March.
A Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse could open in August or September, Brett Hutchens, president of Casto Southeast Realty Services, told the Bradenton Herald this week.
And a Texas-based breakfast restaurant and Michigan-based juice bar also are planned to help make Center Point at Waterside, 6516-6600 University Parkway, a destination for diners from across Manatee and Sarasota counties.
But, Hutchens cautions, continuing supply chain problems have had a way of disrupting construction timetables at the multi-use development and elsewhere.
Paul Caragiulo, owner of Owens Fish Camp, can attest to that. In May of 2021, he told the Bradenton Herald that he hoped his Lakewood Ranch restaurant would open in the summer of 2022.
The Caragiulo family opened the original Owens Fish Camp in downtown Sarasota’s Burns Court in 2010, calling it an ode to old Florida living.
“From the looming Banyan tree out front, given to Sarasota developer Owen Burns by Thomas Edison, to the tire swing out back, it is a restaurant full of history and southern hospitality,” Owens Fish Camp says on its website.
As if to underscore the casual atmosphere, Owens Fish Camp does not accept reservations.
“It is very different, and has very special design and ambiance. I am sure they will do very well,” Hutchens said of Owens Fish Camp.
Casto announced in January 2022 that a Ruth’s Chris Steak House would be coming to Center Point with a projected opening in the first half of 2023. The opening of the new Ruth’s Chris Steak House will be a few months later than originally forecast.
The Ruth’s Chris Steak House will be the second in the Manatee-Sarasota area. The first is at 6700 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
Also coming to Center Point, Hutchens said this week are Toasted Yolk Cafe and The Thrivery.
Toasted Yolk Cafe is a Texas-based daytime restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. Toasted Yolk plans its first two Florida stores at Center Point and at 3750 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Toasted Yolk also has stores in Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama.
The Thrivery with a menu featuring smoothies, juices, coffee and espresso and salads, has an emphasis on healthy living.
Center Point is nearly fully leased and should be completed in about one year, Hutchens said.
Previously announced for Center Point:
▪ Lake Park Diner, a Naples-based casual eatery that focuses on quality and sustainable products.
▪ Crisp & Green, which touts its chef-crafted menu with salads, grain bowls, and smoothies.
▪ Olivia’s Italian restaurant.
The first restaurant to start doing business at Center Point was McDonald’s, which debuted there in September.
