Bradenton recycling bins are ending. Here are the drop-off sites, deadlines to know

The city of Bradenton is moving forward with a plan to end recycling pickup and convert the bins to yard waste collection.

Workers have begun removing the recycling signage from the blue cans and replacing it with a yard waste decal. While the new sticker rollout continues, residents will be allowed to use those bins for recycling materials until June 3.

In addition to placing yard waste, such as grass clipping and tree branches, in the blue bins, residents can also bundle their yard waste or place it in a plastic bag along the street.

Starting June 6, the blue bins will be designated for yard waste only. The city’s recycling program will continue, but residents will need to gather their materials and bring them to one of 10 collection centers throughout the city.

Later this month, the collection bins will be placed at the following locations:

  • East end of San Ortebello Drive, next to the water tower

  • 100 22nd St. NE, in the parking lot

  • 1000 24th St. E., next to the Dream Center

  • Cordova Lakes, at the intersection of 38th Ave. W and 61st St. W.

  • 17th Ave. W. Park at Wares Creek

  • 3120 First Ave. W. at Lewis Park

  • Ninth Ave. W. (Between 63rd and 64th St. W) on the north side of the road

  • 9800 State Road 64, Palma Sola Causeway, near the solid waste dumpster

  • 2718 13th Ave. W., 28th St. W. Park

  • 2905 59th St. W., near the Red Cross Building

Bradenton City Council voted to approve the recycling changes earlier this year, citing staffing issues in the Public Works Department. Despite raising pay and incentivizing workers who remain employed with the city, Bradenton has found it difficult to hire enough staff to efficiently operate recycling trucks.

Regular trash pickup has been prioritized and will continue to be collected twice a week.

Residents will also be allowed to give their blue bins back to the city. In order to have your blue bin removed, call (941) 708-6340 and provide your address.

Until June 3, the city will continue to pick up recycling and yard waste once per week on an alternating schedule. The schedule is as follows:

  • May 9 to 13: Yard waste collection
  • May 16 to 20: Recycling collection
  • May 23 to 27: Yard waste collection
  • May 30 to June 3: Recycling collection
