School board to meet in private to discuss security

The Manatee County School Board is holding an executive session Friday after several threats have placed some area schools on lockdown.

The session will be held at 10 a.m. at the school district’s Administration and Support Center in order to discuss safety and security. Citing Florida Statute 281.301, which exempts information about security systems from public record, the meeting will not be open to the public.

As of Thursday afternoon, six children from four area schools have been charged with second-degree felonies after they made threats against their schools. Three high schools in the district were placed on lockdown after threats were found.

The next board regular meeting will be held at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 27.
