After closing down on June 27 for yet more repairs, the Riverwalk splash pad is now back open for business just in time for the Fourth of July.

Last year, the splash pad required significant maintenance after a “gang of toddlers” was observed on video ripping up loose pieces of the pad, but the city said the most recent closure addressed routine wear and tear.

The city’s out-of-state contractor repaired a small area of the pad that had become worn around one of the park’s sprinkler heads. The city was hopeful to have the park opened by the weekend, but steady afternoon storms delayed the opening until Monday.

The splash pad is under warranty and there were no costs to the city.
