Another Manatee County resident dies from COVID-19, and 89 more test positive, state says

Another resident has died and 89 more have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee County, according to data released Sunday by the Florida Department of Health.

Statewide, 6,229 additional cases were recorded, bringing Florida’s total to 532,806. A total of 9,288 people have confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Manatee County.

In Manatee, 85,026 people have been tested for COVID-19, and the county’s percentage of positive cases increased from 10.7 percent to 10.9 percent. That’s above the state’s target goal of 10 percent positivity.

The statewide average is also trending above 10 percent. On Sunday, the state reported that 13.35 percent of all coronavirus tests were positive. The state has tested nearly four million people.

The Florida Department of Health also announced that another 77 people died from COVID-19 throughout the state, increasing the state’s death toll to 8,186 people. The non-resident death county remains at 129.

The median age of coronavirus cases in the state is 40, which is in line with Manatee’s median age of 39. However, in Manatee County, the 25-34 age group has the highest number of confirmed cases.

Manatee County cases from Saturday to Sunday

  • Cases increased from 9,199 to 9,288
  • The death toll rose from 191 to 192.
  • Resident hospitalizations since the pandemic began increased from 615 to 616.
  • The number of men infected is 4,314 compared to 4,824 females.
  • The positivity rate rose from 10.7 percent to 10.9 percent.

Florida cases from Saturday to Sunday

  • Cases increased from to 526,577 to 532,806.
  • Fatalities rose from 8,109 to 8,186.
  • Florida’s positivity rate increased from 13.32 percent to 13.35 percent.

Surrounding counties

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 6,164 to 6,231. The death toll increased from 138 to 139.
  • DeSoto County cases increases from 1,339 to 1,348. The death toll remained at 16.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 950 to 956. The death toll remained at seven.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 32,268 to 32,452. The death toll remained at 388.
  • Pinellas County cases increased from 17,725 to 17,775. The death toll rose from 497 to 500.
