75 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths in Manatee County as state death toll tops 8,100
Manatee County recorded 75 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 9,199, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Statewide, there were another 8,502 new cases. Florida has now recorded 526,577 cases since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, the state death toll climbed to 8,109 with 182 new deaths on Saturday. Two of those deaths were in Manatee County, bringing the county’s total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 191.
The number of Florida residents testing positive compared to the number of tests administered climbed slightly from Friday to Saturday to 13.32 percent. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s targeted positivity rate is 9 percent.
Manatee County’s positivity rate remained stable at 10.9 percent with 84,334 tests administered. However, the daily positivity rate has remained below 9 percent 10 out of the last 11 days of testing.
Cases in long-term care facilities increased from 681 to 689, which represents 8 percent of the overall number cases in Manatee County. Three new cases have been reported in Manatee County correctional facilities, bringing the total to 15.
While the median age of those infected in Manatee County remains at 39, the largest age group of infected continues to be between the ages of 25 and 34. Fatalities continue to hit the older age groups the hardest, however.
Of the 191 deaths in Manatee County, 114 of them have been over the age of 75. Ninety of the deaths were long-term care patients.
Another 35 fatalities have been recorded in the age group between 65 and 74. The next highest age group to be affected by fatalities is between 55 and 64 with 28 deaths.
There were no new pediatric cases reported on Saturday leaving the total number of infected under the age of 18 in Manatee County at 1,042, but that age group continues to test at a higher positivity rate at 13.8 percent.
There have been 207 cases between infancy and 4 years old and 573 cases between the ages of 5-14.with no deaths, but three hospitalizations for the latter age group.

- Cases increased from 9,124 to 9,199.
- The death toll rose from 189 to 191.
- Resident hospitalizations since the pandemic began increased from 596 to 615.
- The number of men infected is 4,232 compared to 4,728 females.
