147 new COVID-19 cases reported in Manatee as Florida resident death toll nears 5,000

Another 147 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee County, according to the latest data released by the Florida Department of Health Saturday morning.

The state reported 10,327 new cases of the virus, bringing Florida’s total number of cases to 337,568. A total of 6,280 people have confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Manatee.

In Manatee, the death toll remains 143, but the state reported another 90 deaths. The statewide death toll among Florida residents now stands at 4,895, according to health officials.

The percentage of positive tests continues to trend upward in Manatee and throughout the state. On Saturday, Manatee’s percent of positive tests rose slightly from 9.8 percent to 9.9 percent. Statewide, the percent of positive tests rose from 11.3 percent to 11.5 percent.

The state’s “target range” for positive cases is below 10 percent.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 3,880 to 4,065. The death toll remained at 100.
  • Desoto County cases increased from 1,045 to 1,055. The death toll remains 13.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 677 to 694. The death toll remained at four.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 22,502 to 23,103. The death toll rose from 232 to 233.
  • Pinellas County cases increased from 12,714 to 13,019. The death toll rose from 300 to 310.
