More than 6,000 Manatee County residents have tested positive for the coronavirus
The Florida Department of Health confirmed 219 new coronavirus cases in Manatee County on Friday morning among the 11,466 new cases across the state.
There are have been 6,133 total positive cases in Manatee County since the pandemic started Across Florida, the total number of confirmed cases is 327,241.
The FDOH also confirmed the deaths of 128 more Florida residents from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The official death toll now stands at 4,805.
This is the fourth day in a row this week that the health department announced more than 100 newly confirmed COVID-19 related deaths statewide.
No new deaths were reported in Manatee County, where the death toll stands at 143.
The deaths of two more non-residents were also announced on Friday morning. A total of 107 non-residents have died from COVID-19 in Florida but the health department does not include those deaths in the state’s official death toll.
Positivity rate continues to increase locally and statewide. In Manatee County, it is now 9.8% and 11.3% across the state.
Of the 1,419 test results released on Friday for Manatee County residents, the positivity rate was 15.4%. The positivity rate includes all negative tests results, even multiple tests for same person, but it only includes one positive test per person found to have the virus.
Hospitalizations continue to tick up, with the county’s three general hospitals reporting 133 patients total who are positive for the coronavirus.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County cases increased from 3,724 to 3,880. The death toll remained at 100.
- Desoto County cases increased from 1,015 to 1,045. The death toll remains 13.
- Hardee County cases increased from 649 to 677. The death toll remained at four.
- Hillsborough County cases increased from 21,557 to 22,502. The death toll rose from 232 to 233.
- Pinellas County cases increased from 12,368 to 12,714. The death toll rose from 295 to 300.
