Bradenton Aldi worker tests positive for COVID-19, supermarket company confirms

A worker at a Bradenton Aldi discount supermarket has tested positive for COVID-19, a corporate spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

The Aldi worker is employed at 5715 14th Street W.

“The employee is in quarantine and on paid leave and we are doing everything we can to ensure they receive the attention they need. To respect the privacy of our employees, no further information will be shared regarding this case,” the spokesperson said in an email.

To date, Aldi has not confirmed COVID-19 cases at any of its other Bradenton stores, which are located at 4525 53rd Avenue E., and 4705 Cortez Road W., or at its Palmetto store at 605 10th Street E.

The store on 14th Street is located on the site of a former Sonny’s BBQ restaurant , which served barbecue there from 2008 until it closed in 2017.

The health and well-being of employees and customers is its highest priority, the spokesperson said, adding that Aldi has:

Partnered with state and local health experts, and follows the guidance of the CDC. Aldi has enacted a number of initiatives to further promote health and safety for both customers and employees.

Implemented one-way aisles to better manage the flow of traffic, installed signage and floor decals to remind employees and customers to maintain a safe distance – at least 6 feet – from one another, installed temporary protective barriers at checkout and continuously cleans shopping carts throughout the day.

Required all store and warehouse employees to wear masks or face coverings during their shifts and encourages shoppers to do the same. Aldi also takes the temperatures of store and warehouse employees, as well as completing a basic health screening before reporting to work.

In recent weeks, Publix supermarkets has confirmed three positive cases of COVID-19 among its workers in the Bradenton area. The stores, at 11245 North US 301, Parrish, 2875 University Parkway, Sarasota, and 4240 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, each had one associate test positive. Those workers were recovering at home.

Walmart has referred questions about whether any of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19 to the Manatee County Health Department. To date, the health department has declined to identify companies with COVID-19-positive employees.

Winn Dixie and Target have not responded to requests from the Herald about whether any of their workers have tested positive for COVID-19.
