Six more COVID-19 deaths reported in Manatee County. State death toll rises by 53

Six more people have died from COVID-19 in Manatee County, according to the latest data released by the Florida Department of Health on Tuesday.

The latest local deaths are among the 53 total that were reported across the state. Deaths were also reported in Broward, Miami-Dade, Desoto, Duval, Hendry, Jefferson, Lee, Martin, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Volusia and Washington counties.

In Manatee County, a total of 111 people have now died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Included in those deaths are 76 residents or staffers at local skilled nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

Statewide, there have been 2,765 people who have died.

Manatee County also reported 10 new cases, which are among the 1,095 new cases of people testing positive for the coronavirus in Florida.

A total of 1,229 people have tested positive in Manatee County. The statewide tally now stands at 66,000.

A new walk-up testing facility was scheduled to open at noon Tuesday in the parking of Home Depot located at 2350 Cortez Road, Bradenton, but was only partially set up late afternoon because of a delay in the delivery of the needed supplies, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management spokesman Jason Mahon. As a result, the site will not be able to begin testing until at least Wednesday.

The site is a joint effort by FDEM, Quest Diagnostics and Home Depot, one of three statewide.

Manatee County has tested 23,854 people so far, with a positive rate of 5.2% currently, which is within the target range set by the Department of Health and equal to the state’s overall positive rate.

In Sarasota County, there were eight new cases reported, making a total of 694 people who have tested positive. Sarasota’s positive rate is lower, however, with 2.9% of those tested being positive. One death was reported, raising Sarasota’s death toll to 86.

Hillsborough County had 62 new cases on Tuesday, making a cumulative 2,923 of people testing positive for the coronavirus, with a 4% positive rate. With two new deaths reported, the death toll rose to 93.

In Pinellas County, there were 52 new cases reported, making a total of 1,679 people who have tested positive, with a 3% positive rate of those tested. There were also four new deaths reported, taking the death toll to 99.
